For twenty years The Chancers have been touring, recording and innovating-producing a unique sound in the centre of Europe. Now on their twentieth anniversary they are celebrating by bringing the stars of Jamaican and UK ska and reggae to Prague for a unique festival experience.
The stars of the first Rudeboy Paradise Festival are the legendary "black skinhead" Roy Ellis known as Mr. Symarip and Rhoda Dakar, of 2tone legends The Bodysnatchers and The Specials. "We have decided to celebrate our birthday with bands that are close to us and important to the genre," The Chancers said.
Even after twenty years on stage, five successful albums, many European tours, and inclusion on international compilations, The Chancers continue to produce new ideas. One of them is the idea of Rude Boy Paradise, which will premiere on September 15, 2018 at Střelecký Island in Prague. "Last year we played several similar events in Germany. Our birthday is an ideal opportunity to see if there is a place for a genre-defined mini-festival in a beautiful place right in the heart of the city,“ explains the band.
The Chancers will be celebrating twenty years of music, and the band has invited some famous names of ska and reggae, who they have played with over the years. The main star will be legendary Jamaican singer Roy Ellis aka Mr. Symarip, who stood at the birth of skinhead reggae and sold five million records. The Chancers were his backing band on a successful Christmas tour, which culminated in a sold out concert in Prague. "With Roy, it was a great education and incredible fun. We could not find out how old he really was but it doesn't slow him down, the way he works the stage, it has to be experienced,“ the band describes their work with the creator of hits such as Skinhead Girl, Skinhead Moonstomp and Must Catch A Train.
Last year, The Chancers also had the chance to perform with the second guest of the festival. British singer Rhoda Dakar is an icon of the 2tone island genre. "Tracks such as Too Experienced, Rocksteady and Ruder Than You, which made her famous with The Bodysnatchers, have become firm favourites. Songs like Racist Friend, Free Nelson Mandela, or I Can not Stand It, which she sang with the The Specials, have become ska classics. It is a tremendous honor for us to celebrate with this lady," say The Chancers. This will also be the first time she has played in Prague.
Domestic colors will be greeted by Prague's Green Småtroll at the Rude Boy Paradise Festival, who has been preaching the Ska-Jazz Gospel for more than fifteen years. "We are still talking about other artists and we will publish their names gradually. Definitely do it as for the whole day, "The Chancers report. "And all night," they add. Even though the program on the island ends with police ten o'clock, entertainment will be a breakthrough to the morning.
The program moves to the most stylish chalet in the city, Prague Allnighters to the Royal Club. There, in the morning, there will be soul-based vinyls from a collection of seasoned DJs Magnus Rams from Sweden and John Bush from Great Britain. They will include resident selectors Mr. Cat, Buqi and Path. With the Rude Boy Paradise tape, visitors to the allnighter will have a privileged entrance. Stylish entertainment will be taken care of until the early morning hours.
"It will be an exception not only for us but for everyone who loves ska, reggae and soul as much as we do,“ invites The Chancers to non radio her celebration of her twenties.
